Upon further research, yesterday’s shot of the beacon within the Beacon Cove residential area was of the Rear Light. Today I twist round 180 degrees and show the Front Light, which is 500 metres due south.
These Port Melbourne lighthouses were built in 1924 and by lining up the lights from the two, craft are guided along the centre of the Port Melbourne Channel. The rear light is still in operation, however this front light has been replaced by the modern light you can see next to it.
