Beacon Twist

Upon further research, yesterday’s shot of the beacon within the Beacon Cove residential area was of the Rear Light. Today I twist round 180 degrees and show the Front Light, which is 500 metres due south.

These Port Melbourne lighthouses were built in 1924 and by lining up the lights from the two, craft are guided along the centre of the Port Melbourne Channel. The rear light is still in operation, however this front light has been replaced by the modern light you can see next to it.

Beacon Cove

Beacon Cove is a residential estate in Port Melbourne, Victoria Australia, completed in 1996. The design had to accommodate this still working shipping beacon that shines a guiding light out to shipping in Port Phillip.
