Before I first visited Bells Beach some years ago, I had assumed it was large and imposing. I had seen it a number of times on television due to the surfing championships, but this did not give away its secrets. Nor indeed did the end scene of Point Break the movie, one of my favourites, but unfortunately not filmed at Bells. It is an intimate beach, and if it weren’t for the large car park upon the cliff above and equally large imposing sandstone sign you would not give it much thought. I imagine this view on a 1970s postcard.
