Architectural Fragment

This public artwork is probably the most well known in Melbourne and by some counts the most loved, but it hasn’t always been that way. I suspect that most Melburnians, though, could not name the artist responsible.  I am pleased the city embraces commissioned public art, and tolerates non-commissioned art too, a short walk around the city will soon make this very clear.

For those interested it is called Architectural Fragment, installed in 1992 & the artist’s name is Petrus Spronk. Here is a recent blog post by him: In Defence of Public Sculpture.
