Retrospective 9-2008: Manmade Mountains

Coober Pedy was on our route on this particular road trip. It is a surreal looking town of manmade mountains due to Opal mining and many underground houses carved from rock to protect from the searing heat. The town, and surrounds, highlights the wealth Australia has generated from mineral resources, with Opals, Gold, Copper, Iron Ore (and now potentially) Oil found in great quantities in the area.
