Horse Racing is held at Hanging Rock twice a year, on New Year’s Day and Australia Day (26 January). Official races have been conducted since 1886, but there is evidence of thoroughbred races as early as 1870 at the base of the rock. One notable event in 2011: The race meeting was abandoned due to a kangaroo mob invasion of the track.
There are only fleeting glimpses of the track from the top of Hanging Rock, however the vibrant green grass stands out from the brown land that surrounds it.
