Hanging Rock was used as the backdrop for the classic Australian novel Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay, written in 1967, concerning the disappearance of a group of schoolgirls while on a visit to the rock. However, it was the iconic film of the book, directed by Peter Weir in 1975, that is responsible for the renewed interest in the rock that has continued to this day.
I don’t know about you, but I see faces in this rock.
