I have searched high and low, but have not been able to find an aboriginal name for Hanging Rock. It is located in the Wurundjeri nation’s territory and as it was close to the boundary of three other nations, there is evidence that the base was used for meeting and trading, as well as a place for marriage and initiation. It is claimed that the ‘rock’ was not climbed as it is haunted.
There was no further aboriginal activity recorded at the rock after 1851.
